Division of Fishery Resources and Ecosystem

The Division of Fishery Resources and Ecosystem is the most time-honored division in YSFRI, and has firstly launched and made great contributions to the research on marine ecosystem dynamics and the application of fisheries acoustics in China. The division mainly focuses on fisheries biology and stock assessment, population dynamics and stock-recruitment mechanism, food web and ecosystem dynamics, stock enhancement and ecological risk assessment, molecular ecology of fisheries, high seas and polar fisheries etc. In recent years, the division has undertaken many major national projects, including National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), National Key Technology Support Program, Special Fund for Agro-scientific Research in the Public Interest, National Natural Science Foundation of China, International S&T Cooperation Program, Special Fund for the Assessment and Exploration of Fishery resources from Ministry of Agriculture etc. These projects have considerably promoted the development of the world GLOBEC research, as well as greatly contributed to the investigation and assessment of fishery resources, stock enhancement and conservation, biodiversity protection and evaluation, and the exploitation and utilization of fishery stocks in high seas and polar waters and so on. These research results have successfully supported the conservation and sustainable utilization of fishery resources and the ecosystem-based fishery management.
